The baseline coastal processes including waves, currents and tidal water levels at Volwaterbaai were described using available data and numerical modelling.
The dispersion of the brine and co-discharges was modelled under a set of 46 environmental scenarios chosen to represent the characteristics of the discharge site. Taking into account the probability of occurrence of each scenario, the model results were combined to produce a statistical result indicating the distance from the discharge point at which the water quality guideline is met, as well as the number of dilutions for co-discharges.
The results of this study will be interpreted by the Marine Ecology Specialist which will inform the associated impacts and the possible need for mitigation measures.
